Phone Tag…

So my question of the day is: Do we still play phone tag?

Hear me out. I recognize that people sometimes have trouble catching each other, but with all of the technology we use, phone tag has become obsolete.

For example, you can’t catch someone by phone often because some people don’t even answer their phone anymore. You send that person a quick text. There may be a delayed response, but they will more than likely get back to you within a reasonable time. If you cannot get them by text, move to Facebook Messenger, Instagram, e-mail…you get the idea. Talking on the phone is really no longer part of the eventual hookup.

Back in the day when we were only connected by landline or snail mail, you could try to reach someone dozens of times before you actually hear their voice. Now we can communicate with someone halfway across the world within moments in one technological form or another. The “phone” serves more like a computer than it’s original intent. So bye-bye phone tag…

Give yourself a break…

So I had a personal commitment to blog every day, even if it was just a small entry. Well yesterday, the day got away from me. Around 7:30 p.m. I recognized that I had forgotten to post.

Now the person I was in the past would have raced to my computer, booted up, and frantically began to write (or stress if I had nothing to share). The person I am now decided to chill out about it.

Sometimes we put expectations on ourselves that are unrealistic. Things happen, days get busy, and sometimes a person forgets to blog. Not to worry…

The message is to give yourself a break. Examine your expectations and trade in rigidity for fluidity. And don’t forget to…

Honeysuckle Tea and Emergen-C…

So I was recently (I think yesterday) complaining about being sick. Ugh! Well, I’m feeling much better today thanks to honeysuckle tea and Emergen-C.

I’ve been using honeysuckle tea for a while now for its medicinal properties. “Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) incorporates thousands of plants and herbs, all of which offer healing properties…In TCM, the honeysuckle flower is commonly used to help ease the flu, colds and sore throat. According to Science Alert,13 this plant has the ability to prevent the influenza virus from replicating.”

Emergen-C is about as western as you can get. It’s basically hitting your body with loads of vitamin C and B, antioxidants, and electrolytes. Many people I know swear by it to keep the flu at bay.

No trip to the doctor was required. I just used a combination of eastern and western remedies along with plenty of rest. Yes, I still have some crud left, but I’ll continue this path to get back to wellness. Stay healthy and…

The Festival

Crowds of people mill about

as we run into neighbors at

the festival.

Local artisans share their wares

as citizens invest at

the festival.

The aroma of cooking is in the air

as we enjoy cuisine only found at

the festival.

Local bands share music and jam

as melodies fill the air at

the festival.

Banners are waved

as we enjoy a parade at

the festival.

We feel pride in our community

as we spend time enjoying ourselves at

the festival.

Sleep (or lack thereof)…

So last night was one of those nights. I tossed, I turned, I tossed, I turned, but quality sleep somehow eluded me.

Here’s where it gets weird…There was absolutely no reason I should have had such a rough night. I’m physically well, I’m not worried about anything, I had no dietary changes, there were no schedule changes, and I kept to my sleep routine.

But I did make one mistake. According to the National Sleep Foundation, staying in bed when you cannot sleep is not your best option.

“If you get into bed and cannot fall asleep after 20 minutes, get up and return to another space in the house to do a relaxing activity, such as reading or listening to music. Lying in bed awake can create an unhealthy link between your sleeping environment and wakefulness. Instead, you want your bed to conjure sleepy thoughts and feelings only.”

So I plan to add this strategy to my bag of tricks. Sleep well and…

Laura Ashley is back on point…

laura ashleySo Laura Ashley is back on point. The modest, prairie dress style has sparked the interest of many this season. This fashion label has been around since 1953. Back in the 80s, you’d see Laura Ashley dresses everywhere. In addition to being seen around town, many bridesmaids sported this look during their best friend’s wedding.

But Laura Ashley is more than dresses. The design house also makes home furnishings, bedding, and attire for men. A real plus for the line this spring is a partnership with Urban Outfitters which has added bathing suits, accessories, and all other elements of Laura Ashley. This is bringing a whole new customer base to the classic design.

Look around this spring. You’re bound to see florals, florals, everywhere.

Dogs…

So, I may be stating the obvious, but dogs are kinda neat. If you choose a breed that is a match for your family, you’ll have more than a pet.

Dogs are very intelligent, and they develop an individual personality just like humans. Our dog, Lilly, is a 42-pound lap dog. She’s a Goldendoodle who loves to cuddle and get plenty of belly rubs. Lilly knows if we are unwell and will lay beside us to offer support. She demonstrates her smarts by showing she knows the answer to so many questions, not just commands. Just to name a few:

“Lilly, is it time?” She immediately interprets that it is time to eat or take her medicine. She always seems to know which one we mean.

“Lilly, are you ready?” She knows it’s time to go outside and play.

“Lilly, where is Sammy?” She’ll run upstairs and hop next to Sammy on the bed.

When growing up, we had a Bouvier des Flandres names Money. This dog was convinced she was a human. One day Mom called all of the kids to the living room to help move furniture:

“Kids, come in here please,” Mom called.

Who was the first one there? You guessed it: It was Money.
