So I was recently (I think yesterday) complaining about being sick. Ugh! Well, I’m feeling much better today thanks to honeysuckle tea and Emergen-C.
I’ve been using honeysuckle tea for a while now for its medicinal properties. “Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) incorporates thousands of plants and herbs, all of which offer healing properties…In TCM, the honeysuckle flower is commonly used to help ease the flu, colds and sore throat. According to Science Alert,13 this plant has the ability to prevent the influenza virus from replicating.”
Emergen-C is about as western as you can get. It’s basically hitting your body with loads of vitamin C and B, antioxidants, and electrolytes. Many people I know swear by it to keep the flu at bay.
No trip to the doctor was required. I just used a combination of eastern and western remedies along with plenty of rest. Yes, I still have some crud left, but I’ll continue this path to get back to wellness. Stay healthy and…
So last night was one of those nights. I tossed, I turned, I tossed, I turned, but quality sleep somehow eluded me.
Here’s where it gets weird…There was absolutely no reason I should have had such a rough night. I’m physically well, I’m not worried about anything, I had no dietary changes, there were no schedule changes, and I kept to my sleep routine.
But I did make one mistake. According to the National Sleep Foundation, staying in bed when you cannot sleep is not your best option.
“If you get into bed and cannot fall asleep after 20 minutes, get up and return to another space in the house to do a relaxing activity, such as reading or listening to music. Lying in bed awake can create an unhealthy link between your sleeping environment and wakefulness. Instead, you want your bed to conjure sleepy thoughts and feelings only.”
My final line of yesterday’s entry was: “Now if I could just give up the caffeine…”
Well, I took a step in the right direction today.
I’ve always found drinking plain water just too boring. So in the market this morning, I got inspired. I’ve never been a lemon and water girl, but then I eyed the other citrus options. The oranges looked mighty tasty…
Upon arriving home I sliced up an orange and added it to a pitcher of water. After about a half hour, I gave it a try. Yummy! I won’t be able to immediately give up my diet soda habit, but I’m on my way.
