Life in the -ish…

Some people are sticklers for time.

Others of us prefer to chill.

If you find you’re never in a hurry,

you just may be living life in the -ish.

You see, when my friends and I make plans

to meet for a meal or a drink,

and we are coordinating the meetup we say,

“How about 11:00ish?”

It may mean 10:55, 11:05, 11:15,

11:30 or even 11:45.

It’s not about the arrival time

but about how we spend the time – together.

If someone runs “late”, it’s not a concern.

We just order a drink and bask in our surroundings.

And when they arrive, we are happy

and pick up from where we left off previously.

Living life in the -ish is a great place to be

the stress is low, the joy is high.

Just try it once, and you might like

living life in the -ish.

Stay groovy…

Early Morning

There’s a certain feeling you get early in the morning.

The kids are still asleep

and the birds are, too.

The house is still with quiet and peace.

You may hear a slight snore

or perhaps a sigh as one of the children turn over in their bed.

The gentle sound of coffee brewing indicated the day has begun.

The wonderful smell wafts past your nose.

Then the gentle sound of birds awake

just as the sun begins to rise.

They each have a particular song they sing.

You wonder if that song has significant meaning to another one of its species.

You sit down with your hot cup,

and you open the newspaper or boot up the computer to catch up on the news.

As you sip the coffee, the room gets more natural light from the rising sun.

The birds begin to converse more, and that brings a smile to your face.

But the largest smile is yet to come as you hear the children stir upstairs.

They skip down the steps two at time.

They’re hungry for breakfast

and ready to start the day.

The house begins to bustle.

The morning races ahead.

And only you are aware of the peaceful nook

that is present before the day officially begins.

Stay groovy…

I love my job…

So my alarm goes off each morning at 3:45 a.m.

Why? Because I start work at 4:30 a.m.

What do I do that gets me up while all of my friends are still asleep? I teach…and I love it!

My teacher friends here in Orange County, Florida would question my extra early rise, but I don’t join them in public schools. I teach English to children in China.

No, I’m not hopping a plane to China each day. I take advantage of technology. I’m an independent contractor, and my client offers me a platform on which I instruct students online. Parents book me, and I teach. That’s it. All I need is my laptop and headset, and I’m ready to instruct from home.

As an online ESL (English as a Second Language) educator, I have the unique opportunity of teaching students overseas. In my case, it’s China. My odd work hours are due to the twelve hour time difference. I’m on Eastern Standard Time, so when it’s 4:30 a.m. in Florida, it’s 5:30 p.m. the same day in China.

No lesson planning, no paperwork, no papers to grade, no bureaucracy…I just do what I enjoy. I teach, and I love my job!

Buddha Groove

“They say good things always come in threes. Such is the case with this elegant gemstone ring; triple stones means a triple dose of healing energy.” –Buddha Groove

Giving a shout out to a wonderful company I stumbled upon…

Buddha Groove has an amazing selection of jewelry, apparel, home items, and healing gemstones. I first saw their goods on Facebook. After jewelry from the site appeared, reappeared, and reappeared again, I decided to have a look. This particular three stone amethyst ring had caught my eye.

I was intrigued by the lovely amethyst stones and sterling silver textured band which was reminiscent of tree branches. It is beautiful, unique, and well made. And I love supporting small businesses.

So if you are interested in some inspiring jewelry visit buddhagroove.com.

So I guess this is turning into a two-parter…

My final line of yesterday’s entry was: “Now if I could just give up the caffeine…”

Well, I took a step in the right direction today.

I’ve always found drinking plain water just too boring. So in the market this morning, I got inspired. I’ve never been a lemon and water girl, but then I eyed the other citrus options. The oranges looked mighty tasty…

Upon arriving home I sliced up an orange and added it to a pitcher of water. After about a half hour, I gave it a try. Yummy! I won’t be able to immediately give up my diet soda habit, but I’m on my way.

Now how does water with cucumber sound?

Take a step…

A journey of a thousand miles begins…Oh, hell no! I will not start this entry with so trite a statement.

But today, I took a step.

I’ve been off exercise for quite a while. Some medication I have to take had the side effect of weight gain. I should have been exercising to get the weight down, but being larger made me quite lethargic. When I did exercise, I felt like shit. It’s ironic that the one thing I should have done was made so difficult.

Fast forward to today. I was able to lower my medication, and the pounds fell off. But I was left with a less tight version of myself. So this morning, I did it. I took a step.

It’s not that impressive. The OCD side of me would have walked 5 miles. The logical side of me just wanted to get moving. So 1.2 miles later, I finished my racewalk. I had downloaded “MapMyRun” on my phone so I can track my progress. It’s not just about looking better. I want to improve my overall wellness.

Now if I could just give up the caffeine…

The Calm

The Calm

With the hustle and bustle of modern times,

we are continually bombarded by stimuli.

Where is the calm?

We need a daily calm to keep our life in balance,

keep us kind to others,

and keep us moving in a positive direction.

How do we achieve the calm?

You must find what works for you.

It may be yoga, running, meditation, or medication.

Don’t be afraid to try what you must,

because the calm is better than the frantic pace with which most humans race.

The calm…Seek it…

Journaling

So who out there likes to journal? For years I was a binge journaler. I’d write consistently for a few weeks or maybe months. I’d then stop for who knows how long…sometimes years. My early pieces were handwritten, later ones were recorded on the computer.

Here’s the cool thing about journaling. I periodically return to random entries, and it’s staggering that the same themes emerge repeatedly. It’s also a relief to realize that I have evolved past some circumstances that seemed eternal.

That’s it…

Where’d my 20/20 go?

A funny thing happens when you turn 40…Your vision begins to gradually tank. Imagine how bad it gets in your 50s…

And the older I get, the more pairs of readers I need. First of all, my visual acuity depends on what I’m doing. Am I reading? That requires one pair of glasses. Am I working on my computer? A different magnification may be required. If I actually wish to see my food when we dine, yes, I grab another pair.

And don’t get me started on the fashion component. You see, I like different looks, so that requires many alternatives.

I also continually lose my readers. I leave them in restaurants, in the grocery store, at friends’ homes…They are scattered throughout the house.

So what is the answer to this vision conundrum? Dollar Tree!!! My husband turned me on to this ideal location for purchasing my spectacles as I need so many. I was skeptical until he came home one day with a pair.  I was surprised that they were of such decent quality. If they do break, who cares? And if I lose them, it is no cause for alarm. Plus, I can own dozens…

So fulfill your love for eyewear without breaking the bank. Stop by your local Dollar Tree.

And, no, they are not paying me for this plug.

Stay groovy…

Yes, I am actually going to write about my dog taking a piss…

adorable blur breed close up

So this morning, I took my dog out as usual. I observed Lily do what she has done 1000 times before. She went on the neverending quest for somewhere to take a piss.

So what is with dogs searching and searching and searching and searching for just the right spot to take a piss? She sniffs, sniffs, sniffs, and sniffs…Then she turns, turns, and turns some more. She starts to squat, but wait…That’s not the right spot. So she takes a whiff, takes a whiff, and takes a whiff again. She circles, circles, and starts to squat, but NO!!! After repeating this ritual a half a dozen times she finally finds just the spot, she squats and finally takes a piss.

Many say this is all part of a dog marking its territory. Could you imagine if humans participated in this interesting practice? In the case of men, they wouldn’t be looking for a place to piss, but a way to mark their territory as far women are concerned.

Imagine a man in a bar, searching for a woman he fancied. After an exhaustive search, he finds the one for him. Rather than go up and talk with her, all he’d have to do is piss on her bar stool. That’s his way of saying to the other fellows, “Stay away, she’s mine!” Ladies, wouldn’t that be a fun way to meet your prince charming?

Due to our politically correct environment, I have an important question:

Have I offended you yet?

Stay groovy…
