So, what is your preferred workout environment? Do you hit the weight room or find a treadmill? Do you enjoy exercising in a class setting? Are you into Cross Fit or yoga? Do you like to go to the gym or is one set up at home?
The older I get, the more I’m drawn to the outdoors for my exercise. Am I attracted by the scenery, the sound of the birds, or the feel of a light breeze? I’m not sure why…Perhaps because on a treadmill, I’m going nowhere.
Some communities lend themselves to walking, so “working out” occurs throughout the day, and you don’t need to schedule the time. But for many Americans, a fitness regimen is not only desired but somewhat required. In the words of Nike, “Just do it!”

So yesterday I awoke with a terrible, lower backache. My time on the elliptical machine the day before had come back to haunt me. I couldn’t bend or even lean, and the pain was constant.
I had leftover prescription lidocaine patches from a car accident (no they were not expired), so I thought I’d give one a try. Since this was an Rx item, I anticipated some quick relief. Oh, I was so wrong…
After struggling to get down the stairs, Stef recommended the heating pad. I was skeptical merely because I was using a prescription with no results. How could a heating pad do much for me?
So I pulled it out and settled into bed with the heating pad under my aching back. Stef was so right! After about a half hour, I was already feeling better. My muscles were loosening up, and I felt decent for the first time that day.
When I woke up this morning, I had some discomfort, but it was a great improvement from yesterday. Now that I have finished classes for the day, I’ll spend a little more time with that heating pad.
I’m happy to say, I am on the mend…

So they drive us all crazy…the wires…
With technology having such a major impact on our lives, we see them everywhere. Wires for:
television
cable
Apple TV (or something similar)
video gaming system (often more than one)
computers
internet
stereo system
chargers (for EVERYTHING!)
and a host of other instruments that require wires!!
As my system was not professionally installed, I’ll have to make a trip to Best Buy to get yet ANOTHER power strip. (You know, the one with the on/off button that prevents your system from crashing during a power surge.) My goal is to hide all of those obnoxious wires behind my entertainment unit.
Even though it will be hidden, I’ll know they are there. Those wires…
In my next home, I’m going for professional installation…

So after reflecting on the milkman yesterday, I started to ponder other things that are so different than back in the day. Hence, this diaper delivery post…
My mother deserves a medal. She raised six babies before diaper services or disposable diapers were available. I’ll never forget when my younger siblings were born. They wore cloth diapers closed with diaper pins and rubber pants. After changing them, Mom rinsed the dirty diaper in the toilet and the soaked diaper made its way into the laundry. With two babies in cloth diapers, she did a diaper load almost every other day. No Diaper Genie for Mom.
How times have changed…

So those of you who were around before the mid-1970s might be familiar with the milkman.
I always feel nostalgic when I think about those years in Indiana when two or three days a week, the milkman would drop by the house and leave milk, eggs, cheese, bread, and perhaps juice in a cooler on the front porch.
It was so convenient and brings to mind simpler days before schedules got so hectic, and families actually had time to gather ’round the breakfast table together.
Unfortunately, services such as that are a thing of the past. Do you remember when your gas was pumped for you and a nice young man would clean the windows of your car? Do you recall when in a shoe shop, you got your foot measured by a professional, the selected shoes were retrieved, and the shoe was placed on your foot with the help of a shoehorn?
Ahh, those were the days…What services do you remember from the past? Add a comment and bring back the memories…

So there’s nothing nicer than a visit with friends, even if it is just a quick visit. I always love it when a friend shoots a text to share that they are in the area. This often leads to a meetup or drop in.
Yesterday was one of those days. The text led to a lovely although short visit due to my early sleep schedule. But it was so valuable! We often get so busy in our daily lives that we lose track of our good friends.
This gathering reminded me that I need to be more aware of my surroundings. When out and about I should be like my friend and reach out to those in the area. It’s a great way to keep friendships going strong.
