So Stef came home from the market appalled.
“Do you know that I can buy almost two gallons of gasoline for the price of a gallon of milk?”
Hard to believe, yet it’s true. Stef paid $2.38 a gallon for gas this morning and $4.05 for a gallon of milk. The price of gas is currently going down with the price of milk skyrocketing.
I did a little research and discovered that we’re just looking at good old supply and demand for both. Apparently fewer cows are making milk to meet the demand. The cost of feed went up last year, and farmers cut back on their cows. Any increase in milk price may have a ripple effect on the price of other dairy products, so expect to pay more for those as well.
The $2.38 per gallon for gas is just the beginning. It’s predicted that in some parts of the country people may soon be paying less that $2 per gallon. Two of the many reasons is that U.S. production of oil is booming and refineries are back up to speed after many problems last year.
Stef cracked me up before I had some answers. His theory: The cows went on strike.

So when I was a teenager, Saturday night often meant a trip to the movies with friends. But it was a different world then, and I wonder how teenagers can afford this fun activity on a regular basis today.
You see, in my day, going to the movies was fairly cheap. Tickets on a weekend night ran about four or five dollars maximum, and popcorn was far less expensive than it is now. Matinees were awesome as they cost no more than three dollars.
Now the price has gotten ridiculous. It costs $13.69 for one movie ticket, and don’t get me started on popcorn. (FYI: The large popcorn with two large drinks: $20.79.) Imagine young people trying to take out a date. Consider that a family of four could cost about $100 for the movie with all the fixings.
I think I’ll wait until the movie comes out on Netflix, or Hulu, or Amazon…

The Hockey Pucks…
When I was young
I was a bad cook,
and I mean
REALLY bad.
The only thing
worse than my cooking
was my failed attempts
at baking.
My brownies were famous,
and they acquired
a special nickname:
the hockey pucks…
Yes, the brownies were
very burned,
very hard,
and very unappetizing.
Perhaps it’s this
lack of success then
that made me determined
to bake well now.
It took years
of practice,
of patience,
of perseverance.
But I did it.
I succeeded.
I actually now make a dessert
that is loved by all who try it.
It’s cheesecake.
And it’s awesome.
So much so that I plan
to sample it to those I love.
So be ready.
On my next visit,
I will probably arrive
with cheesecake in hand.
I’ll always be known
for my hockey pucks,
but I’ll also be known for
some delicious cheesecake.

Clear Skies Ahead…
In a brief moment
the clouds cleared to show blue skies.
A rainbow appeared…

Stormy Skies…
Life has stormy skies
but if you wait patiently
clear skies come again.

Wine…
Sweetness of white grapes
drained of juice, aged perfectly
tickles my taste buds.

When I was young, during the summer…
When I was young, during the summer
we would play outside
all day long with our friends.
When I was young, during the summer
we would run through the sprinklers
on a hot afternoon to cool off.
When I was young, during the summer
we would ride our bikes all over the neighborhood,
and we felt safe doing so.
When I was young, during the summer
we would stay outside
until the street lights came on.
When I was young, during the summer
we would have sleepovers
and stay up all night.
When I was young, during the summer
we would have lemonade stands
that all of our neighbors would visit.
When I was young, during the summer
we would have a block party
and everyone on our block would attend.
When I was young, during the summer
we would catch fire flies
in washed out jars.
When I was young, during the summer
we would play tag, or house around
or kick the can, or red rover.
When I was young, during the summer
we would play, play, play because we knew
school was just around the corner.
What did you do
when you were young
during the summer?

The Phone Call…
It’s amazing how something
as simple as a phone call
can brighten your day
and make you smile.
You’re going about your day;
It’s an ordinary day
and you need nothing else
to feel complete.
And then the phone rings
and there’s a voice on the other end
that you had not expected
but actually needed to hear.
The call is for not particular reason,
just a check in.
“Hey, how’t it going?
Just thought I’d give you a call.”
You catch up.
You laugh.
You share.
You are grateful for that person.
That person who thought of you
picked up the phone and reached out,
and made a day that was already good
really great!

My Version of Coffee…
My son includes in his
wake-up routine
the all important and necessary
morning cup of Joe.
My morning has a slightly
different requirement.
I see the doctor:
Diet Dr. Pepper that is.
If I don’t get my sunrise fix
then it will not be good day.
I’ll groan and complain
and be in an all around bad mood.
Until I get a glass of that
delicious, caffeinated beverage
which will improve my outlook
and make me smile.
So if you see me looking
gloomy, grumpy, and gray,
grab the nearest can or bottle
of my version of coffee.
It will make my morning
so much better and trust me
it will definitely make
yours better, too!
Stay groovy…
