When I was young, during the summer…

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would play outside

all day long with our friends.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would run through the sprinklers

on a hot afternoon to cool off.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would ride our bikes all over the neighborhood,

and we felt safe doing so.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would stay outside

until the street lights came on.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would have sleepovers

and stay up all night.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would have lemonade stands

that all of our neighbors would visit.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would have a block party

and everyone on our block would attend.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would catch fire flies

in washed out jars.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would play tag, or house around

or kick the can, or red rover.

 

When I was young, during the summer

we would play, play, play because we knew

school was just around the corner.
