Yes, they’re back as well…

shoulder pads.jpg

So, were you around in the 1980s? If you were, you probably recall a little show called Dynasty. When you think about the fashion on that program, what comes to mind? Yes, shoulder pads. And…They’re back!

I kid you not. On the runway of 2019 Fall Paris Fashion Week, shoulder pads were all the rage. They’re bigger, they’re better.

Yet, I’m not quite sure how I feel about this one. I like my fabrics to feel natural, and I worry the excess padding will feel and look bulky.

For those who want to give this a try, does it require purchasing multiple blazers or coats? Maybe not. In the 80s, one could purchase shoulder pads to be added under an ensemble to either create or enhance the appearance of the shoulders.

I’ll be on the lookout for those…

Would you try this fashion trend?

05-layering-trends-dress-over-pants

So when I was growing up in Indiana, we used to do it…Wear pants under dresses that is.

You see, in the early to mid-1970s girls were not allowed to wear pants to school. Therefore on below freezing school days, when tights just wouldn’t cut it, we would put pants on under our dresses and skirts. It kept us warm but was a questionable fashion statement even for the 70s.

Fast forward to Paris Fall Fashion Week 2019, and there it was. Layering took a slight twist as models walked the runway wearing dresses over pants. I am a huge fan of layering, so any opportunity to do so is welcome.

I believe this trend might just catch on, so I’ll be scanning the shop windows for such examples. Want to join me?

The double bag goes one step further…

plastic bag.jpg

So the double handbag trend from New York Fashion Week has found Paris, but this time it has a new twist. On the runway of the 2019 Fall Paris Fashion Week, we saw clear bags with a purse inside. No kidding.

Now when I mentioned this to my daughter, Sammy, she said, “It must be raining.” Not the case…People are actually buying clear satchels to carry their handbags…inclement weather being a non-issue.

I once again applaud the designers for coming up with an accessory add on, albeit a theoretically inexpensive one. If you can find one at a bargain, go for it and stay on point with this latest trend…

The Yellow Pages…

yellowpages7

So yesterday, it happened…The Yellow Pages arrived at my front door. Do you recall my recent post on wastefulness? Well, that is nothing compared to this…

There was a time when the Yellow Pages was very important. Prior to the internet, this book served as your connection to the world. No one wanted to call information and face extra charges on their phone bill, so the Yellow Pages was the go-to for getting phone numbers to any business in the area. It also contained advertisements so you could secure information about the company you are considering commissioning.

Now, I just say why? With the abundance of Yellow Pages winding up in landfills (or preferably the recycle bin) I wonder why they continue to print it. I don’t know a single person who uses this resource. Since the majority of Americans do a web search to seek information, most people immediately throw the Yellow Pages away upon seeing it on the doorstep.

Heading to the garage now…I need to recycle my Yellow Pages…

Designer’s Corner: Rok Hwang…

rok

So, Rok Hwang…He’s on my radar…

Love, love, love his work. He’s considered the hottest debut at Fall Paris Fashion Week 2019.  He’s educated, experienced, and exudes vision.

What intrigues me is he chooses simple fabrics but repositions them through “deconstruction”, followed by “reconstruction”.

The style of the Rokh woman is youthful with a hint of rawness. According to Hwang: “…I deconstruct the perfect look into a total mess and then rebuild imperfection.”

This is one designer I intend to keenly observe…

Hats are in…

statement-hats-paris-fashion-week-fall-2019-trend-10

So after giving New York Fashion Week proper attention, it’s time for the Paris Fall Fashion Week 2019 to have a turn…

What’s going to be hot for Fall 2019…Statement hats…

We’re not talking ball caps, or my favorite, beanies…You’ll see bold barrel toppers, fringy Muppet-inspired headgear, and brightly colored chapeaus. The photo above presents an ensemble designed by Nina Ricci, and it completely captures the coming hat craze.

So pull your fedora from the closet or stop by your favorite shop to indulge in this go-to accessory…

Some days…

Some days…

Some days

you want to curl up in bed

with a good book

and a warm cup of coffee.

Some days

because it’s cold outside

or rainy

or it’s your average Tuesday.

Some days

your blankets beckon

for you to stay cozy

and not leave your bed.

Some days

you relax

and wait for tomorrow

to arise.
