The Checkbook Cover…

So I got my daughter an adorable purse with a matching wallet for her birthday. She loved it, and it keeps her from having to bring her backpack everywhere. But there was one humorous aspect to the gift…

When Sammy was filling her new wallet, she pulled out the checkbook cover with a perplexed look on her face.

“What’s this?” she inquired.

I explained that it was a checkbook cover, and she immediately burst into laughter. Although she knows what checks are, Sammy has never owned any. I’m currently out of them with no plans for putting in an order. I’m not sure if Sammy has even seen a check in her adult life. As a matter of fact, I know very few people who use checks anymore.

So at what point will they stop including this antiquated item with the wallet?

Golden Globe Awards Went Plant Based…

The 77th annual Golden Globe awards were on Sunday night. Rather than write about the winners or the fashions, I’m going to ponder the decision to go to a plant-based meal this year.

I am not a vegan or a vegetarian, but I support those who are. Many came forward to praise the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for their decision to serve a vegan meal. Joaquin Phoenix said, “By acknowledging animal agriculture’s role in the degradation of our planet and boldly taking measures to do its part to reduce harm, the HFPA has shown great leadership…”

While I recognize that this is one small step in an effort to help our environmental concerns, I wonder if there is a plan to serve a plant-based menu at the Golden Globes next year as well. After all, this year is simply one meal. What is the goal of the HFPA? Are they truly seeking authentic change, or are they simply leaning toward political correctness? Are they trying to start an important conversation, or is this a publicity stunt?

I am not attempting to start an argument, I merely feel it is something to think about…

It’s a New Year!

Well, the Roarin’ 20s are here! Each new year brings a plethora of resolutions from well meaning people. But these same plans usually fall off the radar by the end of January.

Why do resolutions so often fail? I think because they are too far reaching. Rather than elect to lose 50 pounds, why not just choose to lose weight or get to a healthy weight? For me, rather than committing to blog every day, I could just declare that I will blog consistently.

I think resolutions put an enormous amount of pressure on people, which is why I choose not to participate in the yearly torture. I think I’ll just make every attempt to live my best life…whatever that entails. How about you?
