Diaper Delivery…

So after reflecting on the milkman yesterday, I started to ponder other things that are so different than back in the day. Hence, this diaper delivery post…

My mother deserves a medal. She raised six babies before diaper services or disposable diapers were available. I’ll never forget when my younger siblings were born. They wore cloth diapers closed with diaper pins and rubber pants. After changing them, Mom rinsed the dirty diaper in the toilet and the soaked diaper made its way into the laundry. With two babies in cloth diapers, she did a diaper load almost every other day. No Diaper Genie for Mom.

How times have changed…

The milkman…

So those of you who were around before the mid-1970s might be familiar with the milkman.

I  always feel nostalgic when I think about those years in Indiana when two or three days a week, the milkman would drop by the house and leave milk, eggs, cheese, bread, and perhaps juice in a cooler on the front porch.

It was so convenient and brings to mind simpler days before schedules got so hectic, and families actually had time to gather ’round the breakfast table together.

Unfortunately, services such as that are a thing of the past. Do you remember when your gas was pumped for you and a nice young man would clean the windows of your car? Do you recall when in a shoe shop, you got your foot measured by a professional, the selected shoes were retrieved, and the shoe was placed on your foot with the help of a shoehorn?

Ahh, those were the days…What services do you remember from the past? Add a comment and bring back the memories…
